We are community members who believe in fiscal and environmental responsibility, access to open space, and responsive government. We are the Friends of the East Lake Sammamish Trail.
We are a grassroots organization that was originally founded in 1999 to realize the vision of a connected trail in the right of way of an old railway line along the eastern shore of Lake Sammamish.
After decades of advocacy, the interim gravel trail opened in 2006.Since then, segments of trail in Issaquah and Redmond have been paved and completed to safe standards. The first completed section in northern Sammamish opened June, 2015 and more of the Sammamish segment is opening in late 2017.
We believe that the trail can be completed to regional trail standards (12ft paved trail plus 2ft shoulders and 1ft clear zone on each side, for a total of 18 ft), while enhancing the natural environment surrounding the lake, and benefiting the community by providing public access to the lake and expanding recreation opportunities.
